Latisse: Gift of Beautiful Eyelashes

Ever want glamorous eyelashes like those of Hollywood actress Brooke Shields but don’t want to fuss around with heavy mascara or imitation eyelashes? We may see you walking that red carpet soon enough because the same maker of Botox has a new FDA approved product called Latisse. Latisse has been clinically shown to make lashes fuller, darker, and longer in as little as two months with peak results occurring at 16 weeks. Latisse is available only by doctor prescription and is placed nightly with use of an applicator to the upper eyelids. The active ingredient from Latisse is derived from an eye drop called Lumigan that I have been using for years to manage glaucoma patients. Potential side effects of Latisse are actually very similar to Lumigan and include bronzing of the upper eye lid skin, browning of the iris, itchy eyes, eye redness, and eye pressure changes. Due to the number of possible ocular side effects, it is strongly recommended that a Board Certified Ophthalmologist monitor your progress while on Latisse. An additional benefit of using Latisse is the longer and thicker eyelashes can protect the eyes from debris and allergens. Because medical insurance doesn’t cover the cost for evaluation and dispensing of Latisse, our eye center is offering a $20 discount coupon that can be found in the new Monthly Views and Values Magazine 2010 calendar good towards your initial supply. It would make an excellent holiday gift. Call (724) 695-5510 to set up an initial consultation to obtain those eyelashes of your dreams.

Pampering The Skin Around The Eyes

There’s an old saying, “A thick skinned individual can take a lot of abuse”. Unfortunately, the skin around the eyes is extremely thin leaving it susceptible to the effects of two common villains, age and sunlight. What results around the eyes is loose skin and wrinkles, commonly referred to as crow’s feet. Coming to the rescue are dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm. These products are injected under the skin to restore firmness and smooth out wrinkles. They work by replacing a component of the skin called hyaluronic acid that normally gets loss over time. The net result is often a youthful natural appearance. Treatments with dermal fillers can amazingly often last many months. Side effects are uncommon but include allergic reactions, temporary local bruising, and skin infection.
