DIETARY AND LIFESTYLE RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPROVE EYE HEALTH

Nutrition Recommendations

1.) Antioxidant and flavonoid rich foods: Fruits (acai, apricot, bilberry, blueberries, cherries, grapes, kiwi, pomegranate) & Vegetables (carrots, kale, orange peppers, spinach)

2.) Foods containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids (acai, flax seed, salmon, sardines)

3.) Cook with olive oil

4.) Limit trans-fatty acids (cakes, cookies, donuts, french fries)

5.) Limit red meats (beef)

6.) Limit refined foods (breads, pastas, sugar)

7.) Limit alcohol, coffee, and tobacco

Supplement Recommendations

1.) Multivitamin with vitamins A, C, E, B complex vitamins and trace minerals such as copper, magnesium, selenium, and zinc

2.) Fish oil capsules (1-2 capsules daily)

3.) Lutein (2-6 mg daily)

4.) Zeaxanthin (1-10 mg daily)

5.) Coenzyme Q10 (100-200 mg nightly)

6.) Alpha-lipoic acid (25-50 mg twice daily)

7.) Resveratrol (50-200 mg daily)

Herbal Recommendations

1.) Green tea extract (250-500 mg daily)

2.) Ginkgo biloba (40-80 mg three times daily)

Exercise Recommendations

1.) Moderate exercise for 15 minutes at least three times a week

Sleep Recommendations

1.) At least eight hours of sleep nightly
